Fountain pens are special, and once filled, they are difficult to resell upon return. When purchasing a fountain pen, it is recommended that you test it by dipping the nib in ink. The Pulse of the Modern Era: Kuretake Meiji No Iro – Shimbashi-Iro

Journey back to the vibrant streets of late 19th-century Tokyo with the Kuretake Meiji No Iro collection. This series isn't just a set of pigments; it is a liquid history of the Meiji era, a time when Japan’s artistic heart began to beat with global influences. Shimbashi-Iro (New Bridge Blue) is perhaps the most fashionable hue of that time—a bright, trendy turquoise that captured the spirit of a changing nation.

With Shimbashi-Iro, your writing carries the energy of the "Geisha of Shimbashi," who first made this striking blue the height of Parisian-inspired Japanese fashion.

✨ The Essence of Shimbashi-Iro: A Blue Beyond Tradition

"Shimbashi-Iro" refers to the brilliant blue-green that became synonymous with the Shimbashi district, a hub of modern culture and elegance during the Meiji Restoration. Unlike the deep, traditional indigo of old Japan, this color was achieved through newly imported chemical dyes, representing the "New Bridge" to the Western world.

  • Water-Based Dye Brilliance: As a high-quality dye-based ink, Shimbashi-Iro offers a luminous transparency. On the page, it presents a vivid turquoise with subtle shading that mimics the shifting light on water.

  • Liquid Poetry: The formula is engineered for a "wet" writing experience, ensuring the ink glides across the paper without hesitation, leaving behind a crisp, clean line.

  • Exquisite Glass Presentation: The 20ml glass bottle is designed for the aesthetic connoisseur. Its heavy base ensures stability during dip-pen use, while the classic labeling brings a touch of Meiji-era sophistication to your desk.

  • Universal Fluidity: Kuretake has perfected a "pen-friendly" chemistry. This ink is gentle enough for your vintage fountain pens yet saturated enough to stand out in a modern glass pen or felt-tip marker.

🖋️ One Ink, Infinite Expressions

The Meiji No Iro series is uniquely versatile, designed to bridge the gap between various artistic tools:

  1. Fountain Pens: Perfectly balanced for consistent flow, making it an ideal choice for daily journaling and professional signatures.

  2. Glass & Dip Pens: The ink's viscosity allows it to fill the grooves of a glass nib effectively, providing long, uninterrupted strokes.

  3. Kuretake Karappo-pen: A true innovation—simply dip the wick of an "empty pen" into Shimbashi-Iro to create a portable, custom-colored turquoise marker.

🔍 Explore the Meiji No Iro Palette

Shimbashi-Iro is the light of the collection, but the Meiji era was filled with rich, complex tones. Explore these notable variants at Pen Boutique:

  1. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Ebicha – A sophisticated "Grape Brown," the signature academic color for the era’s intellectuals.

  2. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Shinkucha – A deep, forest-toned green that reflects the natural tranquility of traditional Japanese gardens.

  3. Kuretake Meiji No Iro - Araishu – A warm, "Washed Vermilion" that captures the glow of a setting sun on historical textiles.

The Artist’s Insight: "Shimbashi-Iro is the color of optimism. It’s a shade that refuses to be ignored, turning every handwritten note into a celebration of modern elegance and historic flair."
